  The Way Of Love

The Day I Met Jesus Christ in the Flesh

by Matthew Payne

This is not a rhyming poem I hope you forgive me for that

It was late in the night

Me and Jesus were chatting

I was at the beach

He was in heaven

And we were talking and

He was sharing deep and

meaningful things with me

He as encouraging me

Inspiring me

Teaching me

Moving me and

I sat transfixed on the beach

In wonder at

2am in the morning

in the cool of winter

in love with my savior

It's the day I got so romantic

I was in love with Jesus

A man that died for me

And man that bled for me

And who spent night up

Chatting to me alone

Quite

On a beach

Chatting into the wind

And together we chatted

And I fell in love

Ever so in love with Him

Oh the sweet things he was saying

And the quite of the night

It seemed the world had swam away

And the only two people were us

And I had his full attention

Just me and did I mention

Jesus, my beloved.

I was walking back to the main beach

When I stopped suddenly overwhelmed

With my love and adoration

And I asked

Where are you now

And He said

Just beyond the breakers

And I stepped toward the ocean

And suddenly the water receded

200 meters and wondering

what was going on I asked

and Jesus said I will meet you soon

just not tonight and I sighed and said

you said you were coming soon

in Johns Revelation

that was 2000 years ago

I can't wait that long

And Jesus said really really soon

And I will meet you I asked

And you will me he said

About four months later

In the city of Sydney

It was 12 pm at night

When the homeless man

asked me for some change

I still being a judgmental Christian

Asked him if he wanted a meal

And he said yes

And so I went and lined for a meal

I got him a quarter pounder meal

And when I returned he exclaimed

Where's the coffee and

I smiled and said a quarter pounder meal

Then I gave up

How do you like your coffee?

Two sugars and milk he smiled

And it was just like how I take my coffee

And I smiled and returned to wait in line.

I watched him eat his meal

Saw him drink his coffee

We moved out of the cool of the

Winters night

I asked him could I be excused to go

to the toilet and he said yes

And on the way down the stairs

I asked Jesus how long I had to be with this man

a song played on the radio that said

It's over when it's over

So I washed my face

And went and did my business

And prepared myself

For a sleepless night and returned to my

homeless guest

in McDonalds

And he said

It's funny isn't it?

And I said what?

It's funny when you ask Jesus

A question and he answers with a song on the radio

My eyes bulged in shock and then he said

Can I share with you

Some reflections I have

on what Jesus taught in the Gospels?

I said sure

As I was studying the gospels myself

And then he began

He spoke with a clear voice

He spoke with authority

And the discourse

was so profound and so rich

That within one minute I knew

If I continued to listen I would lose all he said

I looked at him as he spoke

Considering whether I would tell him to be quite

And try and remember

two sentences of this profound

discourse

and I'll never forget his face

it was full of joy

and the subject was so dear to him

how could I stop him talking

in one minute he had surpassed all my knowledge

and for ten minutes he continued

while I felt like Paul

and heard something to rich for words

and still today

I cannot recall one sentence

That was spoken

Yet I no without a doubt

No mortal speaking on earth

Has ever done that to me

And especially not on a subject

I thought I knew so well.

He did three miracles that night

He spoke those words that confounded

He collected thirty dollars from strangers

And he disappeared in a twinkling of an eye from view

I have laughed with him

About my low self esteem

For the time I met Jesus in the flesh

He had to take all his glory away

And come and dress down

As a humble homeless man

And he has confirmed to me it was him

And I still remember his form

And the way his mouth played around

The words as they took shape

He loved that discourse on the gospels

And he told me that ten minutes

Would take me ten years to get to the bottom

Even if I had it printed

Oh yes people I met Jesus

And he is a man of miracles

For whatever you do unto the

Very least of my brethren

You do unto me he said
